The University at Buffalo Will Reopen on Tuesday, Oct. 17

News Release

The University at Buffalo Will Reopen on Tuesday, Oct. 17
Resuming all Classes, Operations and Activities

Release Date 10/16/06

The University at Buffalo will resume classes, operations and activities on Tuesday, Oct. 17.

The Town of Amherst driving restrictions have been modified and power has been restored to the campus.

UB is aware that storm damage and power outages still impact significant areas in Western New York and that re-opening will present some challenges. Faculty, students and staff should exercise caution in traveling to and from the campuses. Some area traffic control lights remain out and debris may still be in roadways, particularly in neighborhoods and on side streets. Use of public transportation and car pooling is encouraged to assist in the clean-up efforts underway throughout Western New York. Please be aware that the campuses also continue to recover from the storm and clean-up work is underway.

As is always the case, employees unable to report as scheduled should contact supervisors and students unable to meet academic obligations should be in contact with instructors.

The storm and clean-up could impact some scheduled events at UB for several days; visitors are encouraged to check with campus program sponsors or go to www.buffalo.edu for information. In addition, plans may be made to reschedule campus events postponed by the storm closing. Again, check with programmers or online for updates.

Finally, UB appreciates the understanding and patience of the campus community, students, employees and parents over the past four days. The campus also expresses its thanks to its students, faculty and staff; local communities and government; and out-of-town people and resources that have responded to the storm and aided in the cleanup.
