"Kundun" and the Tibet-in-Buffalo Film Festival
Dear Friend of UB -
This is a (another) friendly reminder that the Tibet-in-Buffalo Film Festival kicks off this Thursday, March 9 at 7:30 pm at the Market and Arts Centre, 639 Main St., Buffalo with Martin Scorsese's landmark film "Kundun" (1997). It tells the story of the Dalai Lama's struggle to rule a nation from which he was forced to escape in 1959. Bruce Jackson, SUNY Distinguished Professor and organizer of the Buffalo Film Seminars, will introduce the film and lead a discussion following the screening.
UB is organizing the seven-part Tibet-in-Buffalo Film Festival in conjunction with the visit by His Holiness in September. The series will present a mix of feature and documentary films to provide a variety of cinematic perspectives on Tibet. Details about the films, which will be shown at 7:30 p.m. March 9, 23 and 30 and April 6, 13, 20 and 27, are available at http://www.buffalo.edu/dalai_lama/events.html
Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $2.50 for students. Series tickets are available for $30 and $15, respectively. A commentator will introduce each film.
A press release about the film series is available at http://www.buffalo.edu/news/fast-execute.cgi/article-page.html?article=77470009
We hope you can join us Thursday evening at the Market Arcade.
